The engineering

Why we chose 15 bars

True espresso extracts at 9 bars of pressure right at the group head. We rated our pump at 15 bars so that after water travels through the internal piping, a clean 9 bars still meets the packed coffee puck — every single shot.

That headroom is deliberately gentle. The 15 bar pump is slightly less aggressive than our 20 bar model, which makes it remarkably easy to dial in — even if your grind isn't flawlessly tuned. Water flows softly through the compacted bed with a forgiving rate, never stalling, smoothly capturing balanced flavor notes.

The ritual

Your daily workflow

Great espresso is a repeatable ritual. Here's how we pull our morning shot on the 15 Bar.

  1. Warm up. Switch the machine on — the thermoblock reaches brewing temperature in moments.
  2. Grind. Grind fresh beans to a medium-fine espresso grind, or use your favorite pre-ground coffee.
  3. Dose. Fill the portafilter basket and level the grounds gently across the rim.
  4. Tamp. Apply firm, even downward pressure to compress the puck and eliminate air pockets.
  5. Extract. Lock the portafilter into the group head and press brew to pull your shot.
  6. Steam milk. Flip to steam mode, purge the wand into the tray, and texture cold milk to silk.

Choosing your machine

15 Bar vs 20 Bar

Both machines share the same retro DNA, thermoblock heating and steam wand — the difference is pressure behavior during extraction.

Feature 15 BAR 20 BAR
Grind forgiveness High — handles pre-ground coffee easily Moderate — rewards a finer, precise grind
Extraction Steady, forgiving water flow Faster — pushes through resistance with extra headroom
Best suited for First-time buyers and casual coffee drinkers Enthusiasts wanting to tune every variable

Cleaning & Maintenance

A few simple habits keep your 15 Bar pulling thick crema at the perfect temperature for years.

Routine care

  • Wipe down the steam wand immediately after every frothing session.
  • Empty the drip tray frequently.
  • Brush out the portafilter baskets to keep the micro holes clear.

Descaling

Descale the internal thermoblock every 1–3 months to remove calcium deposits, depending on your water hardness. Step-by-step instructions live in our user manual, and quick fixes in the FAQ & troubleshooting hub.

Questions, answered

15 Bar FAQ

Is 15 bar enough for espresso?
Yes, 15 bar is more than enough for espresso. Since 9 bars is the standard for extraction at the group head, a 15 bar pump provides sufficient headroom to push water evenly through a standard espresso grind.
Does 15 bar produce crema?
Absolutely. A 15 bar pump, when combined with fresh coffee and an appropriate espresso grind, creates enough resistance and pressure to extract the natural oils, resulting in a rich, thick crema on top of your shot.
Is 15 bar better for beginners?
Yes. A 15 bar espresso machine is more forgiving for beginners because it handles standard grinds well and doesn't require the extreme precision of dialing in that higher-pressure or commercial machines demand.
Can I use pre-ground coffee?
Yes. The 15 bar system is very accommodating to pre-ground coffee commonly found in grocery stores, making it highly convenient if you don't own a specialized burr grinder.
How often to descale?
Descale your machine every 1 to 3 months to keep the thermoblock heating element clean. The exact timeline depends on how hard the water is in your area and how frequently you pull shots.
What grind size works best?
A medium-fine to fine espresso grind works best. You don't need powder-fine grounds — the 15 bar pump handles slightly coarser espresso grinds very effectively without choking the flow.
